LOVE. HURT. HAPPINESS. ABUSE. HOPE. ADDICTION. BIPOLAR. It doesn’t matter which words you use to describe my life because I have experienced all of them. Even though I am behind bars, I have all that I need in my life– my Savior Jesus Christ. I have never been so free. Scripture teaches me, “So if the son sets you free you will be free indeed.” I am free in my paintings and it gives me the intense gratification that I need.

Do Not Worry

Most every day I talk to someone who is afraid or anxious of something. Even the most courageous people have fears to overcome. In order to overcome anxiety, we must make our God bigger than our fears. When we focus on our fear, we can become paralyzed. When we magnify our God we can become free, we can live the life we are destined to. God will shower us with peace in moments of distress. We simply have to call on Him.

Perhaps my most favorite illustration of God’s love for us in times of fear and uncertainty can be found in Matthew 6:26-30:

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”

I thought of the lilies of the field. Flowers do not need permission to bloom. I meditated on this image for a while. I pictured the flowers blooming and dancing in the wind. I could hear the birds chirping and the warmth of the sun on my face. I imagined myself to be a lily, growing a bit stronger each day.
